WELLESLEY, ON – Ontario’s first new craft brewery launch of 2014 quietly took place this past weekend at The Bent Elbow in Waterloo, where the first pints of beer from Descendants Beer & Beverage Co. started pouring on Friday.
Currently brewing in temporary location in Cambridge while renovations are being done on a permanent home in the historic Wellesley Mill in the nearby village of Wellesley, Descendants is owned and operated by Robin Molloy – a former brewer at Barrie’s Flying Monkeys who has trained at Chicago’s Siebel Institute and VLB Berlin – and his wife Carin Lee Brooks.
The first beer from Descendants is Harbinger Pale Ale, a 5.6% abv and 38 IBU American-style pale ale, with an American Blonde Ale and Belgian Blonde Ale planned to follow soon.
Descendants products will be available exclusively on tap in the Kitchener-Waterloo, Niagara and Sarnia/London regions for now, although retail sales through the LCBO are part of the future plans for the fledgling brewery.
