Hard Knox Brewery Opening This Autumn in Black Diamond, Alberta

BLACK DIAMOND, ABThe Okotoks Western Wheel reports that after several months of construction delays, a new brewery is aiming to open later this year in Black Diamond, a small town southwest of Calgary in southern Alberta.

Hard Knox Brewery is being founded by siblings Pamela and Cory Lyken, who have hired brewmaster Issac Privett (misspelled as “Prizett” in the article) who plans to use as many local ingredients as possible in his beers:

[Privett] is working with saskatoons to create beer with champagne characteristics. He’s also creating an English style brown ale with nut and banana flavouring to taste similar to banana bread and a dark wheat ale that incorporates spruce tips and sarsaparilla root. “I’m new to the area so I’m trying my best to dig in and explore the local flavours around here,” he said. “I’m going to play a little bit before we’re open. Who knows what I’ll come up with.”

Construction on the 5000-square-foot facility is expected to start next week, with a target opening date of late autumn.
