HALIFAX, NS – Garrison Brewing are making a slight name change to their award-winning Imperial Pale Ale, and will now be calling it Imperial IPA.
According to brewery president Brian Titus, the original name “seemed to have caused some confusion”, and that “having to continually explain that this isn’t ‘…just some pale ale’ & ‘yes, we do make an IPA actually’ was starting to wear a little!”
All future batches of the beer will feature a redesigned label with the new name.

HALIFAX, NS – Labatt Breweries have rebranded their Alexander Keith’s Stags Head Stout as Alexander Keith’s Dark Ale. According to a promotional statement, “the new dark ale name better reflects the beer’s unique character.”
This may be a veiled response to criticisms leveled against the beer when it was first launched earlier this year which noted that it was not especially stout-like in appearance or flavour. It’s also been speculated that this is a strategic move to compete more directly against Rickard’s Dark Ale which has just been launched by Molson-Coors Canada.
Along with the new name, Labatt has made the previously draught-only beer available in 473 ml cans at the LCBO in Ontario. Details on retail availability in other provinces have not been announced.

HALIFAX, NS – Propeller Brewery launched this year’s edition of their popular fall seasonal Propeller Pumpkin Ale last week.
Here are the details provided by the brewery:
Propeller brews this unique ale using Howard Dill’s® world famous Atlantic Giant Pumpkins® with a special selection of spices. That’s in addition to the usual ingredients: highest quality malted grain, hops, water and yeast. It takes big pumpkins to make big beer. As for flavour, Propeller Brew Master Don Harms, says “It’s simple. It smells like pumpkin and tastes like beer- people like that. It sells out every year; we’re hoping to make it to Halloween.”
Propeller Pumpkin Ale is available at the Propeller Cold Beer Store on Gottingen Street in Halifax, select private retailers, and a few pubs or restaurants.

Molson Coors Canada have launched a new brand extension to their flagship Molson Canadian lager.
Molson Canadian 67 is a light beer brewed to 3.0% abv with 67 calories, which the press release notes is “half the calories of a glass of wine or a single mixed drink and one-third fewer calories than light beer.”
Also from the press release:
Molson Canadian 67 is specially brewed for Canadian beer tastes by blending two-row malted barley, a touch of wheat, and a triple hopping method using four different varieties of hops. The result is a light beer with rich colour, creamy foam, and the clean flavour you expect from other light beers with only two-thirds the calories.
Molson Canadian 67 has been launched in Ontario and Atlantic Canada to start, with a roll-out to other provinces planned to follow by the end of November.
