Surgenor Brewing Company Opens For Business

COMOX, BCB.C. Beer Blog reports that the province’s newest microbrewery, Surgenor Brewing Company, shipped out their first batch of beer last month.

The brewery was started by Bob Surgenor when business started to slide at the industrial electrical contracting company that he owns due to a decline in the forestry industry. He didn’t want to lay off his employees, and decided that starting a brewery would be a good way to keep them working.

The first two beers from the brewery are a pair of fairly mainstream offerings – Red House Irish Red Ale and Steam Donkey Lager – with a stout and wheat beer to follow. Distribution will be limited to Vancouver Island for the time being, and there will be a “soft opening” celebration on March 21st, followed by an official “grand opening” in July.
