TORONTO, ON & VANCOUVER, BC – Barley’s Angels, a new organization dedicated to increasing the awareness, enjoyment and respect of craft beer among women, is coming to Canada, with chapters launching this week in Toronto and Vancouver.
The Toronto chapter is being spearheaded by Mirella Amato, a beer specialist and writer who is also a member of the Angels’ parent group, the Pink Boots Society, which represents the interests of female beer and brewing professionals. Amato will be inaugurating the chapter with a series of talks by four women under 30 who are working as professional brewers in the GTA:
February 20th – Jennifer Robitaille, Magnotta Brewery
March 20th – Mary Beth Keefe, Granite Brewery
April 17th – Bridgid Young, Mill Street Brewpub
May 15th – Erica Graholm, Steam Whistle Brewery
These women-only events will take place at The Twisted Kilt (1954 Yonge Street) starting at 4pm, and will include an introductory beer, appetizers, and a guided tasting of four beers following the talk. Tickets and more information can be found here.
The Vancouver chapter is being led by Lundy Dale, president of CAMRA BC and longtime supporter of craft beer and cask ale. In addition to holding a kick-off meeting for the group at The Whip (209 East 6th Avenue) in Saturday, February 19th at 6:30pm, Dale will also be presenting a series of women-only tastings at Firefly Fine Wines and Ales (2857 Cambie Street), starting with the following:
February 15th – Pink Pints: a beer 101 for women only
March 15th – Beer with Benefits: flavoured beers
