KENORA, ON – Community newspaper Lake of the Woods Enterprise reports that the small city of Kenora in Northwestern Ontario will soon be home to a new brewery with an old name.
Construction will soon be starting on Lake of the Woods Brewing, a microbrewery and pub to be located in an historic former fire hall. Founded by Taras Manzie – owner of Kenora’s Southview Inn and Bistro – along with his wife Audrey and father Eugene, the new brewery will be taking its name from an earlier Lake of the Woods Brewery which operated in Kenora from 1927 to 1954.
Manzie tells the paper that he hopes to have the brewery in operation before the end of the year, and will feature several year-round brews – including “a pilsner […], a Firehouse amber ale and a blond similar to Stella Artois” – as well as a number of seasonals, all using as many local ingredients as possible.
While the brewery may not be up and running in time, the building will also be one of the attractions in Kenora’s edition of Doors Open Ontario, taking place September 28th and 29th 2012.
