TORONTO, ON – The 3rd annual edition of Toronto Beer Week will be kicking off this coming Friday September 14th, and for the first time, the 9 days of beer tastings, dinners, festivals, pub crawls and more will have an official beer.
Created by Great Lakes Brewery in collaboration with George Milbrandt of craft beer pub C’est What, Metric Porter is described by Milbrandt as follows:
It’s a very complex and rich porter with a nice balance between the bittersweet and roasted malt flavours. Our inspiration was the beers that helped keep the Upper Canada Loyalists ‘hydrated’ during the war of 1812. We also had a little fun with the name. Most people would call this style an Imperial Porter but we decided to give it a definite Canadian spin and call it a Metric Porter.
Metric Porter will be served for the first time at the Toronto Beer Week media launch on Friday, and limited edition vintage bottles will be sent out via bike couriers – acting as a modern Pony Express – to all bars and pubs participating in TBW, where they will be displayed throughout the week.
A cask of the beer will also be available for the public to try on the first night of the 24th Annual Festival Of Craft Breweries taking place at C’est What on Friday September 14th.
