TORONTO, ON – The winner of the inaugural edition of the Ontario Brewmasters Cup, an award for Ontario beer and breweries initiated by a group of Toronto-based beer writers, will be announced during an awards party this coming weekend.
Created by Ben Johnson of blogTO, Crystal Luxmore of The Grid, Greg Clow of Canadian Beer News, and Jordan St. John of QMI/Toronto Sun, the competition started in mid-August with 16 beers – four selected by each writer, in four different categories. A public vote selected a top beer in each category, and those four – Steam Whistle Pilsner, Muskoka Mad Tom IPA, Wellington Imperial Stout and Denison’s Weissbier – went into the final round of voting, which ended on Labour Day weekend.
The overall winner will be announced on Sunday September 16th at The Rhino (1249 Queen St. W., Toronto). The party starts at 7:00 PM, with the award presentation taking place early in the evening, and many of the 16 nominated beers will be available on tap. This event is also part of Toronto Beer Week, providing a nice bookend along with the Golden Tap Awards, which will be closing the week on Saturday September 22nd.
