TORONTO, ON – Beer Academy, the street-level brewery and beer education centre operated by Molson‘s Six Pints Specialty Beer Company, is launching a new seasonal beer today (December 14th) in its tap room and retail store.
Beer Academy Wee Heavy Winter Ale is a 7.1% abv ale brewed with six varieties of malt and Kent Goldings hops, with the following description provided by the brewery:
The dominant roasty sweet malt character of the Scotch Ale Style is due to the fact that hops don’t grow in Scotland. In lieu of low hopping, Scotch Ale’s hefty malt bill and cooler fermentation temperature produce intense yet clean malt flavours. High alcohol content prolonged the effects of aging and also prompted a smaller glass, hence the nickname “wee heavy”.
Wee Heavy Winter Ale is limited to a single keg on draught, and 300 custom 1 litre swing top bottles which can be reserved by emailing info@beeracademy.ca
A launch party for Wee Heavy will take place at Beer Academy (75 Victoria Street, Toronto) at 5 PM today, featuring food from Lou Dawg’s and live music by Dan Gagnon. A variety of Beer Academy beers will be available to sample, including the new Wee Heavy and the returning Hefe-Weizen.
