HALIFAX, NS – Garrison Brewing has announced plans for the construction a new $2 million brewing facility.
Located in the Halifax Seaport Film & Media Centre, just steps from the current brewery, the new 13,000 square foot space will become Garrison’s main production facility, and will allow the company to nearly triple annual brewing capacity from 7,000 to 20,000 hectolitres.
The expansion will also improve Garrison’s environmental impact through the installation of newer equipment, including a wastewater treatment system, and the consolidation of storage and distribution that is currently spread over three separate locations.
“We’ll immediately reduce energy consumption through improved layout, higher-efficiency equipment and increased monitoring and automation,” said Garrison President Brian Titus in a statement. “Tackling wastewater discharge head-on will dramatically reduce our environmental impact. Down the road, we’ll also investigate solar power.”
The expansion is expected to take several months to complete, after which the current Garrison location will remain open with expanded retail and event spaces, and much of the original brewhouse left in place for brewing experimental, one-off and collaborative beers.
