VICTORIA, BC – The Moon Under Water Brewery has announced the release of a limited edition seasonal that offers a new twist on a rare and classic beer style.
Berliner Heist is a 3.7% abv wheat beer that is described as follows:
2 years ago we planted a mole in Germany. Ever since, we’ve been learning the secrets of the traditional German beer styles. When information about an obscure style of beer called ‘Berliner Weisse’ came across our Brewmaster’s desk, we knew we had to make use of it. In true Moon fashion, we didn’t brew a traditional style. We took the Berliner Weiss malt recipe, increased the wheat to ridiculous levels, bittered it with lemon rinds, then open-fermented it with a Bavarian weizen yeast. The result is a tart, dry Weiss with all the finishing character of a Southern Hefeweizen.
Berliner Heist is available now in the Moon Under Water pub, where it is being served with house made fruit syrups to sweeten the beer as is traditional, although customers are encouraged to try it straight up as well.
