COLLINGWOOD, ON – Northwinds Brewery, a new venture headed by avid award-winning homebrewer Geoff Conway, has announced plans to release its first beer to the public next month.
With production being led by Andrew Bartle – a graduate of the Niagara College Brewmaster program who has most recently been working at Beau’s All Natural Brewing – Northwinds will initially be contract brewing at an existing facility, and will be launching with Corduroy Rye IPA, a 6.1% abv and 45 IBU ale that is described as follows:
A classic style with a twist. This is a full bodied IPA with a hefty addition of hearty rye malt and loads of hops. This beer boasts a rich copper colour with red hues that glow from the glass. The generous addition of rye adds a peppery spiciness that accentuates while balancing the bitterness of the massive citrus and floral aromatics of Summit, Dana, and Wakatu hops. The rye also leaves a dry finish which keeps this complex and bold beer finishing crisp, clean, and irresistible.
Future brands will include Three Stage XPA, Milk Run Stout, Northwinds Common, and the Bighead SMaSH series of single malt & single hop beers made using hops from the Bighead Hops farm in Meaford.
In 2014, Northwinds will be opening its own brewhouse in Collingwood, along with a tied house bar and restaurant that will feature seasonal food menus focussed on ingredients sourced from local suppliers whenever possible.
