SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – Following on openings in the last 18 months in Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Kenora, another city in Northern Ontario will soon be home to its own brewery, as Union Jack Brewing is getting set to launch in Sault Ste. Marie early next year.
Founded by brothers Jeff & Jordan Jack – the former as Head Brewer, the latter as President – Union Jack will be located at 9 Queen Street in the city’s downtown, with an on-site store that will offer a variety of brands in cans, kegs, and draught balls (round mini-kegs). A flagship brand – name and style to be confirmed – is also planned to be available at Beer Store and LCBO outlets in 473 ml cans.
According to a news release, seven different prototype beers were served at Naturallia 2013, a recent business and innovation conference in Sault Ste. Marie, and feedback was positive. Further product testing will follow in coming months, leading up to an official debut in early 2014.
