PETERBOROUGH, ON – More than a decade after Kawartha Lakes Brewery was bought and consolidated into Toronto’s Amsterdam Brewery, the original KLB location in Peterborough will soon be up and running as a brewery once again, with next month’s opening of Smithworks Brewing.
Founded by three Smiths – brewmaster Graham, his brother Randy, and Randy’s wife Kelly – Smithworks will be focussed on brewing what Graham describes as “traditional Continental European style beers”, with a variety of old school ales and lagers planned to be brewed in the future.
The brewery’s debut release will be Smithworks Hefeweizen, which will be available by the glass or in take-home bottles at the Smithworks tasting room and retail store, opening at 687 Rye Street in Peterborough some time in May.
