VANCOUVER, BCBC Craft Beer News reports that R&B Brewing has launched a new series of limited edition beers developed together with some of Vancouver’s top chefs, each designed to pair with a signature dish from the respective collaborator.

The first release in the R&B Chef Series is a Nettle, Mint & Ginger California Common that was designed and brewed with the help of chef Chris Whittaker (Forage). The 6% abv ale was brewed with the ingredients noted in the name, and is intended to pair with a halibut dish prepared with nettles, one of Whittaker’s favourite ingredients.

Future collaborators and their beers in the series will include:

  • Robert Belcham (Campagnolo) – Black ESB with burnt citrus filtered with pig bone charcoal.
  • Brian Skinner (The Acorn) – Balanced pale ale conditioned with locally harvested spruce tips.
  • Andrea Carlson (Burdock & Co.) – Light end of summer ale fermented with organic burdock root and sunchokes.
  • Owen Lightly (Butter on the Endive) – Ale that tastes like the sea, conditioned with oyster shells and seaweed.

The first Chef Series release is available now in 650 ml bottles at Forage and select private liquor stores in Vancouver. Additional installments will be released every six weeks through the summer and fall.
