GUELPH, ON – The Guelph Mercury reports that Wellington Brewery has plans in the works for three new collaborative beers, with the first of them set to launch this weekend.
Farmers’ Market Rhubarb Saison was created in partnership with the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market, and was made using 200 pounds of rhubarb from local farmers. The resulting beer – which is the first in a planned series of beers developed in conjunction with local farmers’ markets – is described as follows:
This crisp and refreshing beer has a mild malt body with spicy notes of clove and black pepper from the farmhouse style yeast. The addition of locally grown rhubarb adds a slightly sour and tart finish that makes this the perfect summertime beer.
Samples of Farmers’ Market Rhubarb Saison will be available at the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market this Saturday June 28th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and cans will go on sale that same day at the Wellington Brewery retail store.
Following next month will be a wider release for Island Hopper Pale Ale, a beer brewed in partnership with the Hillside Festival that was debuted at the Session Toronto festival earlier in June.
An American-style pale ale brewed with bee balm leaves, Island Hopper will be served at the Hillside Festival which takes place June 25th to 27th on Guelph Lake Island, and it will also be available in cans and on tap at select bars and restaurants in Ontario.
Finally, the brewery will be launching Gryphon Gold this fall to mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Guelph. Described as a “light craft lager” brewed with Canadian barley malt and Czech Saaz hops, Gryphon Gold will be available at the brewery and select LCBO locations.
