BAYSVILLE, ON – Lake of Bays Brewing has announced the release of two seasonal beers for autumn – one the latest installment in a series of limited edition draught-only brews, and the other a slightly tweaked version of the brewery’s usual fall release.
New in the Wild North Series is Mash’n Pumpkin, a 6% abv pumpkin ale described as follows:
Celebrate sweater weather with this refreshing, malt forward ale brewed specially for fall 2014. Developed by Brewer Mark Campbell, Mash’n Pumpkins features Magnum and Fuggles hops, and pumpkin, autumn spice and vanilla. Partial filtering gives this copper-coloured nectar its slight cloudiness, and you may find a wee bit of residue at the bottom of the glass. A traditional pumpkin ale, Mash’n Pumpkins offers subtle notes of nut and caramel, making it an ideal partner for harvest fare – gobble-gobble.
Returning with a slightly hoppier recipe than in previous years is 10 Point IPA, which checks in at 7.5% abv and 45 IBU, and has the following tasting notes:
Pours with dark amber, burnt orange and copper colour with off-white, ecru-coloured foam. The aromatics are primarily citrus (grapefruit) with a subtle pine note. After the first scent, the malt aromatics come through – a slight hint of toffee with some mild aromas of hay and straw. The body is roasted malts, dark toffee, a gentle molasses flavour and a touch of black licorice. Mouth feel is rounded and very dry. The finish is moderate-to-bold bitterness that lingers longer but is very pleasant.
Both beers are available now on tap at bars and restaurants in Ontario, and 750 ml bottles of 10 Point IPA can be found on shelves at LCBO locations and select stores in Manitoba and the Northeastern US.
