VICTORIA, BC – Phillips Brewing has announced the release of a unique new seasonal beer that features “fresh cherries and generous amounts of smoked malt.”
Cherry Hieter Smoked Cherry Ale is described as follows:
Crafted from pale malt that was smoked in-house using cherry wood boughs, Cherry Hieter is finished with buckets of fresh cherries. Pouring a rich ruby-copper colour, flavours of sweet cherries are balanced by a strong malt backbone and bold smoke base. This brew is ripe for the sipping.
Cherry Hieter is out now in a limited run of 650 ml bottles available at select private liquor stores in BC and at the Phillips retail store. A draught tasting of the beer will take place this Wednesday October 8th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Phillips tasting room
I tried it. It was decent but nothing special in my opinion. There was no obvious smoke or cherry, just a very subtle amount over an OK beer flavour.

If they did it again I could imagine it being epic, if they used the amount of smoke present in their smoked apple wood oak stillage beer from last winter combined with sour cherry.
