TORONTO, ON – Kensington Brewing has announced the release of the first in a planned series of beers using hops planted and grown by brewery owner Brock Shepherd.
Home Grown Porter is the premiere beer under the Kensington Hop Project banner, brewed using Hallertauer hops grown in Kensington Market. The 5.7% abv Porter is a limited draught-only release that will be available at select bars and restaurants in Toronto and area.
With a second growing location in Fenelon Falls, Shepherd intends to have up to 60 plants growing as part of the Hop Project by next year, producing varietals including Cascade, Pacific Gem and Chinook. In the longer term, the project will expand to small-scale production and malting of barley and other grains, with the ultimate goal of producing all of the ingredients for a seasonal beer.
