GUELPH, ON – For the second year running, Wellington Brewery has a busy holiday season planned, with a pair of barley wines available now, and three instalments in the Welly One-Off Series set to be released in the weeks leading up to Christmas under the seasonal DecemBEER umbrella.
Currently on the shelves at the Wellington retail store are 750 ml bottles of Yuletide Barley Wine – described as “an English and American hybrid style Barley Wine with a toasted biscuit malt body, pronounced floral hop notes alongside a slightly boozy bite” – and Frost Quake, a bourbon barrel-aged version of Yuletide. The latter is also available in an extra limited edition of approximately 100 bottles from last year’s edition that have been cellared for 11 months.
In addition to the individual bottles, a special gift pack with a bottle each of Yuletide and Frost Quake is available for $19.95, and an LCBO release of Frost Quake will be happening in January.
The DecemBEER series will be kicking off this Friday December 5th with the release of Walk The Plank IPA, an American style IPA aged on cedar that will be available in a limited run of 473 ml cans. It will be followed on December 12th by a “spiced farmhouse ale using a wild yeast strain isolated in Guelph”, and on December 19th by a “high alcohol ‘wheat wine’ aged in cabernet franc wine barrels”.
