VICTORIA, BC – 2014 has been busy for brewery openings in British Columbia, and while the year is almost over, at least one more brewery will be opening its doors before the calendar flips to 2015.
Set to launch on Friday December 19th in the Central Saanich district of Greater Victoria, Category 12 Brewing has been founded by Michael and Karen Kuzyk, with Michael’s background in microbiology and biochemistry inspiring the company’s retro-futurist logo and branding.
A press release announcing the opening indicates that veteran homebrewer Michael will be focusing on “mostly Belgian influenced and Pacific Northwest style beers,” and will be launching the brewery with a year-round Unsanctioned Saison (6.9% abv) and seasonal Disruption Black IPA (6.7%). Critical Point Pale Ale (5.6% abv) will join the Saison as a core brand in January, and two rotating seasonal brands are planned to be available on a regular basis.
The Category 12 tasting room and retail store is located at 2200 Keating Cross Road, and once open will offer samples to taste on-site, and growlers and 650 ml bottles for take-home purchase.
