TORONTO, ON – Amsterdam Brewery has announced the return this weekend of the multiple award-winning Amsterdam Spring Bock.
First brewed in 2009 from a recipe developed by homebrewer Derek Hyde, this strong doppelbock – checking in this year at 7.3% abv – has become an annual favourite from Amsterdam. It’s also had some tweaks made to it over the years, including a few changes for this new batch:
“This year we decided to go in a different direction with Spring Bock” says Brewmaster Iain McOustra. “We used different malts, added another decoction process, and most importantly we’re using a different strain of yeast this year that’s bringing out more malt character than in past years.” The extra work involved with the decoction process (in fact, this beer was triple-decocted during mashing) was certainly time consuming for our brewers, but as McOustra explains, the end result makes it all worthwhile. “This year’s batch of Spring Bock was a lot of hard work but a lot of fun. We think it’s the best batch of Spring Bock we’ve made in years… you get a big malt hit but the beer still has a clean lager profile. We’re really excited for people to try this one.”
The 2015 edition of Amsterdam Spring Bock will be officially launched tomorrow (February 21st) the Amsterdam BrewHouse, where tours, tastings, games and more will be offered between 1:00 and 5:00 PM. Bottles are on sale now in the BrewHouse and Brewery retail stores, with LCBO distribution to follow in March.
