CALGARY, AB – The Collectors of Canadian Brewery Advertising (CCBA), Canada’s national organization for collectors of brewery memorabilia, has selected Mill Street Distillery Ale as winner of its Label of the Year award for 2014.
The announcement was made during the 36th annual CCBA convention which was held last month in Calgary. The award has been presented annually since 1983 to recognize achievement in beer label design.
In a statement regarding the award, the CCBA provided the following notes about the label:
Distillery Ale was brewed to commemorate the 2013 opening of a copper still and the introduction of Mill Street Bierschnaps at the Mill Street Brew Pub in Toronto’s historic Distillery District. The Distillery District incorporates the site of the famed Gooderham & Worts Distillery which operated continuously for 153 years until its closure in 1990. The colourful Distillery Ale label features a factory scene of the Gooderham & Worts Distillery circa 1875.
The Mill Street Distillery Ale label was designed by Walter Leipurts of Toronto’s WL Design, a firm that has won numerous awards for previous work in beer label and packaging design.
