TORONTO, ON – Ontario’s government-owned liquor retail chain the LCBO has announced that its first specialty section dedicated exclusively to craft beer will be opening this week at the flagship Summerhill location in Toronto.
As first announced in May, the Destination Craft Beer Zone at Summerhill will feature craft beer brands from various regions – Ontario, the rest of Canada, the U.S., and International – although Ontario brands will be featured most prominently.
Perhaps most notably, the section will also have the first growler filling station at an LCBO store, with Mill Street Distillery Ale, Amsterdam Starke Pils, and Great Lakes Swamp Juice IPA set to be the first three brands to be poured.
The Destination Craft Beer Zone will be officially launched at 10:30 AM tomorrow (September 17th) with a media event featuring remarks from Ontario Minister of Finance Charles Sousa, LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter, and a representative from the Ontario Craft Brewers.
The section will be open to the public at 12:00 noon, with tours and tastings taking place until 4:00 PM. It will subsequently be open during regular business hours at the Summerhill LCBO.
Smaller craft beer specialty sections are planned to be opened in 25 other LCBO stores across the province in coming months.
