TORONTO, ONToronto Life reports that several weeks after being purchased by Labatt/AB InBev, Toronto’s Mill Street Brewery has made an acquisition of its own, with the purchase of local cider company Brickworks Ciderhouse.

Brickworks co-founder Chris Noll (pictured right, next to Mill Street brewmaster Joel Manning) says that the deal had been in discussion before the Labatt takeover, and the autonomy that Mill Street has been given under the new ownership was part of what drew Brickworks to close the deal.

According to Manning, a portion of the investment that Labatt has made into Mill Street will be used to upgrade the company’s main brewing facility in Scarborough to produce cider as well as beer.

The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
