FORT McMURRAY, AB – Prairie beer blog On Beer reports that Wood Buffalo Brewing in Fort McMurray is in the final stages of recovery from the closure caused by the massive wildfires in the region, and should soon be fully operational.
Brett Ireland, co-owner of Wood Buffalo and several other affiliated Alberta brewpubs, tells On Beer that while a batch of beer that was being brewed at the time of evacuation had to be discarded, previously brewed beers in the fermentation tanks have all survived the closure.
Brewing has now restarted, and the restaurant portion of the business is expected to reopen late this week. Several other Alberta breweries have donated kegs of beer to be served while stocks of the house beers are restored, and Wood Buffalo will be giving proceeds from the sale of the donated beers to the Fort McMurray Fire Relief Fund.
