EDMONTON, AB – Alley Kat Brewery has announced the first in a new series of limited edition beers that are being released under the Back Alley Brews banner.

Alley Kat co-owner Neil Herbst describes the series as follows:

Our brewers trial new beer recipes on a continual basis, and I thought it was time for our fans to have a chance to try some of these. Some of these Back Alley Brews will be highly experimental, some will be our brewers’ expressions of regular beer styles, so expect a wide variety of beers. Our hope is to release a new Back Alley Brew every couple of months, but in reality the releases will probably be somewhat irregular, so watch our website and social media for updates.

The first Back Alley Brews release is Spruce Almighty, a 5.2% abv spruce ale with the following notes:

This pale ale is moderately hopped with Centennial, Cascade and Columbus. The addition of tender local spruce tips compliments the fruity hop aromas and enhances their pine-like flavour. We hand picked over eighty thousand spruce tips in our own river valley, and our friends the Northern Girls generously allowed us on their Darwell farm to pick the rest. As it turns out, picking spruce tips isn’t easy, but we hope you’ll agree it was well worth it.

Spruce Almighty is launching today (June 27th) in a limited run of 650 ml bottles which will be available at select liquor retailers in Alberta. A small number of kegs are also being made available to local licensees.
