TORONTO, ON – Henderson Brewing has announced details of the latest release in its Ides Series of monthly limited edition beers.
For the Ides of December, the brewery is offering Operation: Snowplow, a 7% abv “lightly-spiced winter warmer” named for an (in)famous incident in recent Toronto history:
On January 14th, 1999, Toronto’s snow-clogged streets were invaded by armoured military vehicles carrying 400 troops. In truth, though, the troops were welcome and the real invaders were the near-infinite number of complex-shaped ice crystals, making up the meter-plus of snow that fell on our city that month. Mayor Mel Lastman, determined to make it so that “senior citizens could go around the corner to get milk,” enlisted the military to battle snowdrifts and liberate bus shelters. The rest of the country laughed, and we cringed a bit (not the only time during Mel’s tenure), but the fact is he got the job done and the 35 emergencies called-in that day were taken care of.
Operation: Snowplow will be released today (December 16th) in a limited run of 650 ml bottles, a portion of which are reserved for monthly subscribers, with the rest available exclusively in the Henderson retail store. It will also be on tap for glasses and growler fills at Henderson for the next four weeks, and at select licensees in Toronto.
