GUELPH, ON – Wellington Brewery has announced the release of a pair of new beers this week, including the latest in the Welly One-Off limited edition series and a new seasonal brand.
Out on Wednesday February 1st will be Mörsugur, a Welly One-Off release to mark International Gruit Day. Named after the third month of winter on the Norse calendar, the beer is described as follows:
Brewed in the depths of winter, this dark gruit is made with a mix of herbs and botanicals including spruce tips, birch bark, juniper, and lapsang souchong tea. With no hops added, this ancient gruit style has subtle notes of smoke and spruce balanced with a roasted malt body and earthy bitterness.
Following on Friday February 3rd is Winter Lager, a 6.8% Helles Bock with the following notes:
Wellington Winter Lager is deep gold in colour with a grainy malt and subtle hop aroma. Brewed with a traditional step mash process, this Helles Bock style strong lager has a gentle warmth, bready malt flavours, and a mild noble hop finish.
Both beers will be available in 750 ml bottles at the brewery, retailing for $9.95 for Mörsugur, $6.95 for Winter Lager. The latter will also be released at select LCBO locations throughout Ontario.
