Royal City Brewing & Guelph Black Heritage Society Mark Black History Month with Lantern Ale

GUELPH, ONCBC News reports that Royal City Brewing and the Guelph Black Heritage Society have partnered on a new beer to celebrate Black History Month.

Lantern Ale is a “very approachable” blonde ale named after the lanterns that would be displayed in the windows of buildings and homes on the Underground Railroad to indicate that they were safe places for escaped slaves fleeing the South.

Lantern Ale was launched last night (February 9th) during a fundraising event at the brewery, and will remain on sale there while supplies last. Proceeds from the fundraiser and beer sales will be donated to the Guelph Black Heritage Society to help pay for accessibility improvements at the group’s Heritage Hall facility.
