FERNIE, BC – Fernie Brewing has announced the release of its first pair of barrel-aged beers.
Barrel Aged Maple Porter and Barrel Aged Irish Red Ale were created by aging two of the brewery’s core brands – Sap Sucker Maple Porter and Big Caboose Red Ale – in barrels from Baillie-Grohman Estate Winery.
Barrel Aged Maple Porter spent a full year in Pinot Noir barrels before being packaged for release. Described as having “strong notes of berries and dried fruit combined with the dark, robust flavour of Sap Sucker Maple Porter,” it’s being released today (February 24th) in a limited run of wax-dipped 650 ml bottles that will be available at the Fernie retail store and select liquor stores in British Columbia.
Less details have been announced about the Barrel Aged Irish Red Ale, except to say that it will be available only on draught at select licencees in the province.
