TORONTO, ON – Mill Street Brewery has announced the latest in its ongoing series of limited edition large format strong ales, as well as a beer dinner inspired by its latest seasonal sampler pack.
Red Ensign is a 7% abv and 20 IBU Belgian-style wheat ale with raspberries that brewmaster Joel Manning describes as follows:
Raspberry wheat beers mean a lot to me. When big events happen, I brew this style of beer to celebrate. When I got married in 1991 I brewed one. When I took over as brewmaster of Mill Street in 2007 I brewed another one. For Canada’s 150th birthday this year, I have designed Red Ensign. It is named after the original flag of Canada at the time of Confederation and nothing could be more emotive with it comes to the birth of our nation than our flag. This beer is made with malt from the Prairies, hops from Ontario, and raspberries from BC so it represents our country from many points of view.
Red Ensign is available now in a limited run of 750 ml bottles.
Also helping to mark Canada’s birthday with representation from across the country is the Great Canadian Beer Dinner, taking place Tuesday July 18th at the original Mill Street Brewpub (21 Tank House Lane, Toronto).
The dinner will feature beers from the Mill Street Summer Brewpub Sampler pack that were developed at each of the four Mill Street Brewpubs across the country – Honest Bucker Ale from Calgary, Walker’s Blueberry Wheat from Toronto, Stone Mason Pale Ale from Ottawa, and Jigger’s Delight from St John’s – each paired with a dish representing the city the beer came from. In addition, the head brewers from the out-of-town pubs will be joining Manning to co-host the dinner and present their respective beer and food pairings.
Tickets for the Great Canadian Beer Dinner are available online for $91.70, which includes all taxes and gratuity. The Summer Brewpub Sampler pack is available now at select beer and liquor retailers.
