VICTORIA, BC – Phillips Brewing has announced the return of one of its classic early beers for a limited time.
Black Toque (6.5% abv) was one of the earliest examples of the Cascadian Dark Ale (aka Black IPA) style when it was introduced in 2004. It remained one of Phillips core brands for a number of years – several of them under the name Skookum Cascadian Brown Ale – before being retired.
Now back as a seasonal release under its original name, it’s described as follows:
Pouring a deep black colour with an off white head, citrus and floral aromas are rounded out by hints of toasted marshmallow. This hybrid style combines the distinct hop forward flavour of an IPA with the smooth characteristics of a dark ale.
Black Toque is available in 650 ml bottles at select private liquor retailers in BC and at the Phillips retail store while supplies last.
