AIRDRIE, AB – Alberta’s newest small brewery will be opening next week in Airdrie, a city roughly 35 km north of Calgary.
Fitzsimmons Brewing has been founded by Cody Fitzsimmons and his girlfriend Pamela Jarosz, with plenty of help from members of the Fitzsimmons family. Also on board is head brewer Allen Douglas, a former Big Rock employee who is returning to the brewing industry after several years of working as a welder.
In a recent profile at On Beer, Fitzsimmons and Douglas describe the brewery’s flagship beers and brewing philosophy as follows:
Douglas says that to start they will have two flagships, an amber ale and a blonde ale. “When we first got together Cody had a plan to put it out to the community what beer they wanted. These are the beer that came back as popular here in Airdrie.”
“In the blonde we are looking for a nice sessionable beer that is not in your face. Malt forward. A nice crisp fresh beer with some citrus and papaya hop character. In the amber we added rye to add a new flavour take. It has a caramel note and the rye finish adds an edge,” says Douglas.
Fitzsimmons adds they will always have some beer that people can only get at the brewery. “At the opening we will have a west coast style IPA hopped with Citra.” The want their beer to be sessionable, but flavourful. “I want to make a beer where you can have a couple with friends and not feel loopy afterwards,” says Douglas.
Located at 4-220 East Lake Blvd NE in Airdrie, Fitzsimmons will be soft launching next Thursday November 16th with pints and growler fills available from 3:00 to 8:00 PM.
The official grand opening will take place on Saturday November 25th from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM. Ongoing business hours following the grand opening have yet to be announced.
