TORONTO, ON – Canadian Beer News is pleased to announce that it will be participating in a modern re-imagining of a beer and sausage dinner that was hosted by the Wine and Food Society of New York in 1973.
On February 21st, 2018, Toronto’s Maple Leaf Tavern (955 Gerrard St. E.) will be holding a Retro Beer and Gourmet Sausage Dinner featuring a six-course menu (see below) inspired by the meal served at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City exactly 45 years earlier.
The sausage-focused menu has been developed Maple Leaf’s chef Jesse Vallins, who has won multiple awards for his sausage creations, and the beer pairings will be the same or similar – geographically and/or stylistically – to those that were served at the original dinner.
Greg Clow, the editor and publisher of Canadian Beer News, will start the evening with some opening remarks before introducing Gary Gillman of Beer et Seq – a blog that featured a post about the original dinner last year – who will give a brief talk on “the concept behind the dinner and some fascinating history pertaining to these early tastings.”
In addition, Greg will be preparing a playlist of music representing NYC in the 1970s to offer an edgy and enjoyable audio accompaniment to the modern interpretation of the evening.
Limited tickets the Retro Beer and Gourmet Sausage Dinner are available now for $105 (plus tax and gratuity). Seating will begin at 6:30 PM, with dinner service at 7:00 PM. Reservations can be made in person at Maple Leaf Tavern or by calling 416-465-0955.
