ST. JOHN’S, NL – Memorial University student newspaper The Muse reports that Quidi Vidi Brewing has released two new beers as part of an general overhaul for the brewery.
Calm Tom’s Double IPA (7.5% abv) and Mad Mike’s Big Bad Belgian (8.4% abv) were launched at the brewery in mid-February, and are available at NLC locations as of this week. The beers are names after the founders of the NL Artisanal & Craft Beer Club, Tom Beckett and Mike Buhler, are respectively described as “a west coast IPA with the full flavours of juicy tropical fruits” and “a strong ale made with classic Belgian yeast character and coriander”.
Quidi Vidi’s head of sales and marketing Justin Fong tells The Muse that the new beers have come while the brewery is in the midst of renovations that are expected to be completed later this month. The result will be a new and improved taproom that will have 16 taps – including biweekly releases of limited edition small batch beers – new furniture, and extended hours.
Fong also says that the revitalized Quidi Vidi is looking forward to participating in the growth of the province’s brewing scene, and is working with Newfoundland’s other breweries to form a craft brewing association.
