KAHNAWAKE, QC – Just a few weeks after it opened, a brewery in the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake in Quebec has changed its name, possibly to avoid confusion with a similarly named brewery in Saskatchewan.
Originally called Black Bridge Brewing after a nickname for the nearby Saint-Laurent Railway Bridge, the brewery is now doing business as Kahnawake Brewing, a change the follows comments on social media about the original name infringing on the trademark of Black Bridge Brewery in Swift Current.
It’s unclear if there was any contact or legal discussions between the two breweries, but the name and branding on the Facebook page for the Quebec brewery was changed in late April to reflect the new name.
