TORONTO, ON – Bandit Brewery has announced the first been in a “series of tropical-forward, tiki cocktail-inspired beers that will evoke exotic locales, with an additional pinch of kitsch, of course.”
Tiki Hurricane Sour Ale (5% abv) is inspired by the Hurricane, a classic New Orleans cocktail made with with rum, lemon juice, and passion fruit syrup. It’s described as follows:
The challenge here was to really nail the expected complex character of the drink through our beer, so we started with a malt bill of pilsner and wheat to provide a relatively clean flavour. Similar to our other sours, we pitched our house strain of lactobacillus overnight to create a slight acidity and bring out some lime flavours. Lactose was added for body and to round out the sweetness. For the dry hop, Galaxy hops were the ideal choice here, as they provide tropical, passionfruit-like aromas. For the final touch, we added some pomegranate juice, molasses, and lime. The molasses in particular really helped to bring out the rum aromas in the beer.
Tiki Hurricane is available now on tap in the Bandit taproom, and in bottles in the brewery retail shop and online store.
