TORONTO, ON – The Trillium Network for Advanced Manufacturing has announced the release of a report on the growth of Ontario’s craft brewing industry over the last decade.
Titled Good Things Brewing: Ontario’s Craft Beer Industry, 2010-2019, the report states that employment in breweries in the province has nearly tripled since 2010, a rate that is higher than any other segment in Ontario’s manufacturing sector.
“When we started this project, we expected to see some growth among craft brewers,” said Brendan Sweeney, Managing Director of the Trillium Network and author of the study, in a statement. “What we didn’t expect was the magnitude of this growth – especially over the past five years. It’s absolutely exceptional. We also found an industry that values collaboration and community.”
In addition to the rapid industry growth, the study also highlights some of the challenges faced by breweries in Ontario, including tax policies, access to markets, and the impact of COVID-19.
