TORONTO, ON – The Government of Ontario has announced that craft breweries in the province will be allowed to sell beer at local farmers’ markets as of the upcoming 2021 season.
The announcement was included in the “Supporting Local Alcohol Producers” section of the 2021 Ontario Budget, and will put breweries on equal footing with Ontario’s wineries, distilleries, and cider makers, all of which are allowed to sell at farmers’ markers under previous legislation.
“This is a fantastic day for Ontario craft beer lovers and Ontario’s more than 300 locally-owned craft breweries,” said Scott Simmons, President of the Ontario Craft Brewers, in a statement. “Allowing the sale of locally-made craft beer at farmers’ markets across the province in [the 2021] budget is a huge step in helping our sector recover from the pandemic, create more local jobs, and give people more ways to find and enjoy local craft beer.”
