SUDBURY, ON – A brewpub that opened in Sudbury last autumn has announced that it has closed its doors due to the financial impact of the COIVD-19 pandemic.
Optimist Brewery & Kitchen was launched in October, 2020 by John Arnold and Stacey Cameron, who upgraded their Taphouse Northern Grill & Pub with renovations and the addition of a brewhouse during the initial pandemic-forced closure last spring and summer.
In an announcement posted on social media late last week, the owners said that COVID-19 “hit the economy hard with particular pain to the hospitality and restaurant industry,” and that “Optimist was not immune and the road to recovery has proven to be insurmountable.”
The statement also noted that they “are proud of the brand and vision we created”, and thanked “partners, loyal patrons and fantastic staff who have stuck with us through the years.”
