CALGARY, AB – Annex Ale Project has announced the release of a new beer inspired by a classic Thanksgiving side dish.
Comfortable Deception Sweet Potato Porter (5.9% abv):
Consider the first person to bring candied sweet potatoes to Thanksgiving dinner. What a dark place they must have been in. Burnt marshmallows layered atop an auburn spackle of smashed-up sweet potato. Infused with cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar to cover their sins. Likely lovingly placed next to some fruit-infused gelatin mold; waiting for the ritual paring down of a bird that is so odd it’s eaten but once a year. You would think this dish is a point of gastronomic shame, yet it seems to find a place on our plates by choice.
For those who are wondering, we are the sort of brewery that is inspired by, and is therefore late for, such events. Introducing Comfortable Deception, our own Sweet Potato Porter. Brewed with roasted sweet potato, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and lactose by a group of young brewers that were clearly up for a challenge. Presenting at 5.9% ABV, this Porter walks the fine line between jovial civility and disinvitation to future family events.
Comfortable Deception is available now at the Annex taproom and retail store, and select beer retailers in Alberta.
