MONCTON, NB – A new veteran-owned brewery with an aim to brew “high quality beer designed to appeal to the bold and the brave among us” is officially launching this weekend in Moncton.
AWOL Brewery has been founded by retired Army Sgt. Robert Black, who has been planning the project since 2015 when he left the service for medical reasons. The brewery is part of the Buy Veteran movement, with partial proceeds going to non-profit organizations that support military and first responder veterans.
Currently brewing on a 3-barrel brewhouse powered by solar energy, Black has opened AWOL with one flagship brand, Tactical Pause American Pale Ale (5% abv), which uses “citrus-like American hops for both bittering and finishing hop additions”, as well as seasonal beers The Smoker Smoked Amber Ale (5.1% abv) and R.E.D. Lager (5% abv).
The launch party for AWOL Brewery will be taking place tomorrow (Saturday April 30th) at All Ranks Moncton Mess (Building 47 at 299 Park Street), a military facility that is not usually open to the public. All three beers will be pouring, and there will be BBQ burgers and sausages, branded merchandise for sale, and prize giveaways.
AWOL beers can also be found on tap at other select bars including Laundromat Expresso Bar, Timber Lounge, and Furnace Room in Moncton, and The Joyce Pub in Fredericton.
