MOUNT PEARL, NL – Landwash Brewery has announced the release of a “funky beer tribute to our funky little island”.
Funk Island Mixed Fermentation Ale (4.9% abv):
Brewed back in the winter, this pale wheat ale was then aged in wine barrels with brettanomyces, a yeast known for developing funky and fruity flavours over time. After aging these were naturally conditioned in the bottle, which means they have a lively carbonation and a little sediment from the secondary fermentation. This beer tastes like orange blossom, underripe strawberries, light hay, with a touch of unique funk. We love brewing beers like this where time and fermentation create more interesting flavours without fruit or other additives. Think natural wine or funky cider, not pale ale!
Funk Island is available now at the Landwash taproom and retail store, and soon at select beer retailers in Newfoundland.
