LILLOOET, BC – A new brewery that is “pursuing a truly British Columbian beer” is now open in Lillooet, a small community in the province’s southwestern region.
Lillooet Brewing has been founded by partners Sacha Bordas and Sam Quinlan, who provide the following statement on the brewery’s website:
We are pursuing a novel approach to making craft beer by focusing entirely on ingredient origins. We aim to empower Canadian farmers and craftspeople who harvest beer’s key ingredients – hops & barley. We will support wild foragers, beekeepers, and others who source food from the land to provide us with inspiration to make our localized & organic beer.
It’s pretty simple. We think our brewery’s foodstuffs should be grown in Canada. We also think it should be grown organically and challenge farmers to use more sustainable techniques towards a brighter future.
The brewery has had beer available since September 2021, when a contract brewed version of its Mule Deer Lager (5.5% abv) hit the market, but its has now opened the doors to its own bricks-and-mortar location which includes a tasting room and retail shop.
Along with Mule Deer Lager, Lillooet’s other current beers – all with names and labels inspired by local wildlife – include Northern Pygmy Owl IPA (6.7% abv), Mountain Bluebird Belgian Wit (5.9% abv), and Western Screech Owl Hazy Pale Ale (4.5% abv). They are joined on tap by guest beers from other BC breweries.
Lillooet Brewing is located at 104 Main Street in Lillooet, and is open from 12:30 PM daily, closing at 7:00 PM on Sunday to Wednesday, 9:00 PM on Thursday, and 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. For more details, see the brewery’s website and Instagram page.
