TORONTO, ON – The winners of the 2nd annual Canadian Brewers Choice Awards, a competition founded by Brewers Journal Canada and “designed to recognize the very best in Canadian brewing”, were announced last night during a dinner and presentation event at Old Flame Brewing in Toronto’s Distillery District.
Nominations for the awards were submitted by brewing industry professionals from across the country, and the winners were selected by a judging panel that included Ren Navarro (Beer. Diversity.), John Keeling (ex-Fullers Brewery), Natasha Peiskar (The Establishment Brewing Company), and Stephen Tyson (Karbon Brewing), plus Brewers Journal editor Tim Sheahan and the Brewers Journal Canada team.
The winners for 2022 included:
Young Brewer of the Year: (tie) Alex Bullen-Genis, Dominion City Brewing / Brittany Ribalkin, Bellwoods Brewery
Brewer of the Year: Andrew “Esty” Estabrooks, Foghorn Brewing
New Brewery of the Year: Something in the Water Brewing
Brewery of the Year: Tire Shack Brewing
Branding of the Year: Tin Whistle Brewing
Sustainability Initiative of the Year: Bench Brewing
New Beer of the Year: Classic Maritime Dry Stout, 2 Crows Brewing
Beer of the Year: Queen of Wheat, Spearhead Brewing
Lifetime Achievement Award: Paul Gautreau, (Retired) Brewmaster Emeritas and former VP Operations at Big Rock Brewery
