Joyce Lau Awarded Pink Boots Yakima Hop Industry Scholarship

TORONTO, ON – Toronto brewer Joyce Lau has been awarded a Pink Boots Yakima Hop Industry Scholarship by the Pink Boots Society Yakima Chapter to attend a week-long educational event hosted in Yakima, Washington.

As described in a news release:

Lau departs for Washington on September 3. From Seattle, she’ll travel to Yakima, where she’ll spend the next few days immersed in the hop industry, learning about hop breeding, farming, processing, brewing and sensory analysis. At the end of the week, she’ll participate in a Pink Boots Collaboration brew with freshly-harvested local hops at Single Hill Brewing in Yakima.

Lau recently finished a five-year stint at Steam Whistle Brewing where she worked as Brewer, Team Lead, and Innovation and Ingredient Specialist. Previous to that, she was Head Brewer for Tonica Kombucha.

The Pink Boots Society is a non-profit organization with branches in the U.S. and Canada that “aims to assist, inspire and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry to advance their careers through education.”
